Africa is facing an unprecedented food crisis, according to a new UN report released earlier this week. More than three quarters of the population living on the continent do not have the means to eat healthily and a fifth suffer from undernourishment. This dire situation is largely due to grain shortages triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, armed conflict in Africa itself, climate change and the fallout from the Covid pandemic.
The Guinean capital, Conakry, is currently hosting an international film festival called CinéNomad Afrique. The event aims to forge a renaissance of Guinean cinema, in particular by training rural populations in the art of cinema. The initiative is supported by French director Michel Gondry, who founded an organization called the Amateur Film Factory.
