Nairobi Hospital finance director Eric Maigo was stabbed 25 times in the chest, neck and face, according to an autopsy carried out on Saturday.

The autopsy was carried out at Lee Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon by government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor.

“He was stabbed 25 times in the chest, neck and face and what killed him was external and internal bleeding,” Dr Oduor told the Nation last night, adding that he had passed the findings on to investigators.

The absence of stab wounds to the hands, Dr Oduor said, indicates the 38-year-old did not attempt to fight back.

Dr Oduor said they took DNA samples from the body to establish who had been in contact with Mr Maigo on the day he died.

A mysterious woman who friends and neighbors said they didn’t know is at the center of the death investigation, which detectives have now expanded to include anyone who had contact with the man who had just been named chief financial officer acting at Nairobi Hospital.

His lifeless body was found in a pool of blood next to his bed at his home in Woodley Estate, Nairobi.

Maigo’s family was present during the autopsy, the pathologist said.

Police have since opened an investigation into the death of 38-year-old Maigo.

Kilimani police station commander Moss Ndiwa said on Friday that Mr Maigo received 10 stab wounds to the chest and the others to the sides, apparently from behind.

Police said Friday they were still investigating the details of the incident, but suspected a friend of the deceased may have committed the murder.

The attacker, according to the Kilimani chief, should have escaped through the window after committing the murder.

“We are still investigating this matter, but neighbors said they heard him moaning in pain and the woman in the house refused to open the door but had fled by the time police arrived,” Mr Ndiwa said.

Mr Ndiwa said police were still investigating the case and were also looking for a suspect who was yet to be identified.

On Friday, the hospital’s general manager, James Nyamongo, issued a memo to staff informing them of the death of their colleague.

“This morning we received the shocking news of the death of our employee, Mr. Eric Maigo, who was our General Manager of Finance. Unconfirmed information currently available to us indicates that Eric’s lifeless body was found by neighbors at his home at 6 a.m. this morning,” Mr Nyamongo said in a memo to all staff.

Mr Nyamongo said the family had been informed of the incident and the police had taken possession and were investigating.

The CEO paid tribute to Eric as a member who did his best for the success of the Nairobi Hospital.

“Eric was a dedicated member of staff who did his best for the success of Nairobi Hospital. Let us all keep his family in our prayers as they go through this difficult time.”
