New York – The Belgian government contributed 9.5 million euros to the regular “core” resources of the UNDP. UNDP thanks Belgium for its support and commitment to flexible financing, enshrined in the UNDP-Belgium multi-year basic agreement (2021-2024). This commitment is essential to UNDP’s efforts to help improve the lives of millions of people and deliver transformative, innovative and integrated development solutions.

Now more than ever, investment in core resources is vital to UNDP’s ability to provide urgent support to countries around the world, particularly in Africa’s least developed countries and in crisis situations. Core resources also enable UNDP to uphold the principle of “leaving no one behind”, particularly women and girls who are particularly vulnerable during conflicts and crises. These funds also provide the basis for implementing flagship programs such as the Sustainable Finance Hub, the Climate Promise, the Crisis Offer and the Gender Strategy 2022-2025, in line with the UNDP Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Core resources help strengthen UNDP’s oversight and accountability functions and continue to provide effective support consistent with the highest standards of transparency and accountability. This commitment is paying off, with UNDP consistently ranked among the most transparent international organizations.

UNDP is committed to strengthening its partnership with Belgium to support countries in their efforts towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. UNDP looks forward to continuing to work with Belgium in areas of common interest, such as climate and biodiversity, resilience, good governance, poverty reduction, gender equality and women’s empowerment. women.
