Capital City Africa Week brings football to Washington – NBC4 Washington

The first-ever Capital Africa Week in Washington DC begins Monday, dedicated to celebrating Africa’s diversity through cultural, economic and sporting events through October 15, with a special spotlight on Ghana.

The week of events is marked by the inaugural ceremony Capital African Cup at Audi Field on Saturday, October 14. At 17 o’clock, DC United will face Medeama SC of the Ghana Premier League in a friendly match. Tickets were available for $20 starting Monday.

Throughout the week, several events will take place around Washington to celebrate culture, fashion, art and more. Here is an overview of the schedule:

The festival begins Monday evening with a welcome reception at the True Reformer Building, which will also house an exhibition of Ghanaian art.

There will also be a Ghana Village at Howard University’s Blackburn Center on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and a fashion pop-up at the Rosewood Hotel on Thursday and Friday.

The week is organized by the Ghana Embassy in Washington, DC, Ghana Tourism Authority, LIQUID SOUL-DC, Events DC and DC United.
