Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the Minister of Electricity.
The South African president has appointed Kgosientsho Ramokgopa as acting finance minister, while Enoch Godongwana takes leave.
Ramokgopa, named the country’s energy czar in March to end the country’s power crisis, took over as acting finance minister on Monday, Vincent Magwenya, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, said via text message on Tuesday .
“It is normal for ministers to act on behalf of their counterparts,” Magwenya said.
Godongwana is currently on leave after presenting the medium-term fiscal policy statement earlier this month, National Treasury said in an emailed response to questions. Ramokgopa will serve in acting capacity until November 22, he said.
Godongwana plans to attend the Group of 20 meeting on the Africa Compact in Berlin next week, Treasury said.
