Gaziantep, known as the capital of Turkey’s carpet sector, is preparing to host the Gaziantep Carpet Fair for the first time this year, organized by Tüyap Exhibition Group (www.Tuyap.com). The event, in collaboration with the Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce, will be held at the Gaziantep Middle East Fair Center (OFM) from May 28 to 31, 2024. It is supported by Gaziantep Governorate, Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality , the Southeast Anatolian Carpet. Association of Exporters (GAHİB) and Gaziantep Chamber of Carpenters and Weavers.

The show aims to attract many visitors from North Africa and Europe – mainly from the Middle East region. It will showcase all elements of production in the sector, including handmade rugs and prayer rugs.

The show is designed to contribute significantly to the business objectives of the carpet sector. It will showcase a wide range of products including machine-made rugs, carpets, mats, prayer rugs, textile flooring (wall to wall), fibers, yarns, textiles, as well as textile machines and accessories.

Many international visitors from UAE, Germany, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, UK, Bulgaria, France, Australia, Netherlands, Switzerland are expected to , Italy, Spain, South Korea, Russia, Malaysia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Kenya will be present at the fair.

Gaziantep will show its potential to the world

İlhan Ersözlü, General Manager of Tüyap Fairs Productions Inc., pointed out that Gaziantep is a global leader in the production and export of machine-made carpets, saying: “Such potential needs to be better recognized around the world and in our own country. We believe that our Gaziantep Carpet Fair, which Tüyap Exhibitions Group is organizing for the first time, will have a significant impact this year. So far, the fair’s sales have reached half. Attendees will include 40 different companies from 10 countries and nearly 200 companies in total, showcasing thousands of square meters of carpet. The fair will occupy two halls covering an area of ​​30,000 square meters, displaying all the industry’s production items, including handmade carpets, woven floor coverings and prayer rugs.

Tuncay Yıldırım, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce, stressed that the carpet sector is the cornerstone of Gaziantep’s economy. He expressed both enthusiasm and optimism about the upcoming Gaziantep Carpet Fair, which is scheduled to begin on May 28. Yıldırım said: “Gaziantep, with its powerful production infrastructure and market share, is well positioned to set global carpet fashion trends and is preparing to welcome the global carpet industry from May 28 to 31. The prospect of seeing industry representatives from all over the world gather in our city for the Gaziantep Carpet Fair is exciting. I am confident that this show will significantly benefit our local businesses in the sector by strengthening existing business relationships and fostering new ones. In addition, the fair is expected to have a positive impact on the recovery and restoration of trade and production in our region, which suffered significant damage following the February 6 earthquakes. We look forward to welcoming all industry representatives to Gaziantep on May 28.

$3 billion in carpet exports

The global trade volume of the carpet sector reached 17.2 billion dollars. Turkey exports approximately $3 billion worth of carpets to 117 countries, ranking second in the world for all types of carpets and first in the production of machine-made carpets. Among the top ten export destinations are the United States (45%), Iraq, England, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Russia and Kazakhstan.

The Gaziantep Carpet Fair can be visited from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on May 28 to 30, 2024 and from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on May 31, 2024.
