JICA organized the “NINJA* Business Plan Competition in Response to COVID-19” in 19 African countries to support startups creating innovative business models and technologies in the post-Coronavirus era. (*NINJA = Next innovation with Japan)

In Nigeria alone, we received over 500 applications and seven startups won the competition. These seven startups have signed PoC (Proof of Concept) contracts with JICA.

In addition to the PoC projects, JICA conducted an acceleration program for these seven startups in cooperation with Ventures Platform and Techcabal, and through this program, we prepared this “Ecosystem Report on the Nigerian Startup Scene”.

Nigeria’s startup ecosystem is one of the largest in Africa in terms of investment and number of hubs, and you can find a variety of new innovative startups every year. So, we have prepared this report which covers all regions of Nigeria (NOT ONLY Lagos, but other regions as well).

We hope you enjoy reading this report.
