At an event celebrating the successful conclusion of its 2023 community development projects and health awareness programs, the Oando/Energia joint venture (JV) highlighted the significant efforts being made to improve the well-being of its communities in ‘welcome. Themed “Building a Healthy Community”, the 2023 health awareness initiative covered communities including Obodougwa, Umusam, Umusadege, Isumpe and Ogbeani.
The commissioning, which took place in Ebendo community, was attended by the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by the State Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Vincent Oyibode . He commended Energia/Oando JV for executing multi-billion projects aimed at the growth and development of the seven oil producing communities in Ndokwa West State Council.
The projects commissioned included the construction and development of Okpala-Uku Palaces, Ebendo Secondary School, 1.7km Obodougwa Internal Road, 10-apartment lodge for corps members and the construction of Azunze/Azagba Phase 1 road, among others, in Emu-Ebendo, Obodougwa, Umusam-Ogbe, Isumpe, Ogbeani, Ogbole and Umusadege Communities.
Oyibode highlighted the outstanding performance of the Oando/Energia joint venture in promoting local development, expressing gratitude to both partners for fulfilling their social responsibility mandates. “I want to thank you for providing what people need to grow their communities,” he said.
Attributing the success of the community development projects to the collaborative efforts between the oil companies and the host communities, Oyibode stressed that Oando/Energia has aligned with the state government’s mission to achieve and significant scholarships. Furthermore, he warned oil-producing communities against disrupting the operations of oil companies, calling for the resolution of internal issues at the local level to avoid hindering community development.
The Managing Director of Energia Limited, Mr. Chidi Egonu, highlighted the company’s commitment to community development over the past 14 years, saying its philosophy is to develop the community in tandem with the company.
Representing the Chief Operating Officer of Oando Energy Resources, Dr. Ainojie “Alex” Irune, was the Asset Manager of Oando Energy Resources, Mr. Seyi Fowora, who highlighted the company’s commitment to making communities better than how they found them. He stressed that these projects constitute a legacy for the future, ensuring socio-economic development through job creation and local capacity building.
Also commenting, the Chairman of Ebendo Community Development Association (ECDA), Mr. Godwin Ozonor, commended the Oando/Energia JV for financing and executing projects that transformed the Ebendo community and urged for early completion of the construction of the ongoing 1,397 km road.
Ogbuefi Anslem Oyibo, Obodougwa’s community counterpart, commended the oil companies for executing much-needed projects and stressed that their initiatives contributed to education and community development. He mentioned the community’s appreciation for the scholarship provided to 38 students from tertiary institutions and the funds provided to over 100 youths and women to run their microcredit programs.
