KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd’s first new energy vehicle (NEV), the X90 sports utility vehicle (SUV), has debuted in three export markets, namely Mauritius, South Africa and Brunei, with the growth of export sales in international markets being one of the key pillars of the national carmaker’s long-term objectives.

In a statement today, Proton said Mauritius was the first export market to receive the X90 as it was unveiled on August 4, 2023 at the Salon de l’Automobile, SVICC, in Pailles.

“Next on the calendar will be South Africa as Proton South Africa showcased the Proton Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia as it was brought together by Yap Wei Sein, Acting High Commissioner of Malaysia to South Africa.

“Proton Brunei also unveiled the Proton Econ Motors,” he said. said.

Proton’s international sales director Steven Xu said this year has been difficult for its export business as many export markets face economic difficulties leading to capital market controls.

“However, our efforts to explore opportunities in other markets continue with preparatory work underway in Fiji, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago and Iraq, among others.

“At the same time, we remain focused on strengthening our presence in our current export markets. The debut of the Proton X90 in three export markets came just three months after its launch in Malaysia on May 7, 2023,” he said.

He added that these markets help raise Proton’s brand image and view it as an investment to benefit from improving market conditions in the future. – Bernama
