Rhinoceros – we are obsessed with these real unicorns! In fact, we’ve cheekily nicknamed ourselves the “Rhino Crash” here at Rhino Africa. However, as endangered African icons, they need a little human attention. So today, on World Rhino Day 2023, we are shining a spotlight on these incredible beings while supporting Wildlife ACT in its mission to save them. So, are you ready to join the parade? We certainly are!
“World Rhino Day is special to us because it is a day dedicated to our namesake. This day ensures that rhinos remain a priority and therefore awareness is increased every year. They are thus continually protected for our future and valued as an incredibly unique species! – Samantha Myburgh, travel expert
Rhino Champion on World Rhino Day 2023
Let’s break down the details of World Rhino Day 2023. This annual holiday takes place every September 22, honoring the planet’s five rhino species and rallying the troops to save them from extinction. This noble cause was first dreamed up by the brilliant minds at WWF South Africa in 2010.
Since then, the day has become a symbol of promoting the cause, uniting rhino sanctuaries, eco-warrior NGOs, corporate hearts and concerned citizens to raise awareness and funds for these horned wonders.
“A rhino represents power, strength and endurance, many of the qualities we represent at Rhino Africa. This day reminds us of their resilience in the wild and gives us the opportunity to protect their survival, ensuring a future where rhinos continue to exist for all of us to enjoy and cherish. – Simone Samuels, Senior IT Project Manager
Keep the five alive
So let’s move on to calling the rhino species. We’re talking black, white, one-horned, Sumatran and Javan rhinos – the superstars of the rhino world. And our mantra for World Rhino Day 2023? It’s “KEEP THE FIVE ALIVE”, which reminds us that there are only a handful of these beauties left and that it is our duty to help them flourish!
“World Rhino Day provides us all with an opportunity to celebrate the achievements and recognize the dedicated efforts of organizations around the world, regardless of their size, to raise awareness of the vital need to safeguard our precious wildlife. This not only includes the protection of endangered species. but also the proactive prevention of future inscriptions on the list of threatened species. – Landy Kent-Millar, travel expert

Now, when Rhino Africa comes on the scene, we don’t just tiptoe around; we bring the thunder! On World Rhino Day, we gathered in the bustling neighborhood Pointe de la Mer Walk in The capready to impress.
Our Rhino Crash arrived in force with his extended family, friends and, yes, even our four-legged friends. There were nearly 80 of us defending this cause – and that’s not counting our beloved fur babies!
“World Rhino Day serves as a platform to raise awareness and educate not only our rhino accident, but also our friends, families and communities, about the serious threats that rhinos face in the wild. This is an opportunity for us to come together, pool our resources and take action to save these magnificent creatures. – Dean Van Rooyen, Human Resources Coordinator
Dressed to impress – Like a rhino!
At Rhino Africa, we live by a motto: “We present ourselves like flamingos”. So before we hit the streets, you know we had to strut and make a statement. We’ve put together some exclusive Rhino Africa outfits for World Rhino Day, and guess what? Every penny from these shirts goes directly to Wildlife ACT to fuel their epic rhino saving mission.
With our stylish clothes on, heads were turned, car horns honked, people waved and curious passersby joined the ride. We were ready to take this show on the road!
“I was lucky enough to see some of the world’s last rhinos in their natural habitat. I’ve seen them roaming the plains of Tanzania and munching on leaves in Addo National Park. I heard them drinking from a waterhole in the middle of the night and heard a snoring sound in Kruger. On World Rhino Day, these memories flood my thoughts, and during these moments, my sincerest wish is that generations to come share these remarkable experiences. – Gerhard Hefers, travel expert
Strutting in support of our namesakes
Under the beautiful spring sunshine and the cool, salty kiss of the ocean breeze, we huddled together to relax before setting off on our 2023 World Rhino Day expedition. Among us were the sprinters seasoned and leisurely strollers, all impatient to put on a show on the road! And with that, here we go!
As we paraded along the picturesque seaside promenade, our mother city did not disappoint and decided to flaunt its dazzling beauty. The backdrop of the crashing waves provided a calming serenade to the lively discussions that filled the air. It was an impeccable day to pay tribute to rhinos – our beloved wild unicorns.
“I always knew that rhinos were unicorns in disguise, and I’m totally obsessed with them! That’s why, on World Rhino Day, I’m happily taking every step to keep their magic alive !” – Vicky Toms, specialist concierge
End on a sweet note
Our friends at Sotano, a popular restaurant in Mouille Point, opened their doors wide to welcome us with an aperitif and pastries after our procession. We gathered together, chatted about our morning getaway, and enjoyed delicious pastries and freshly brewed coffee. Many thanks to Sotano for his warm hospitality!
“World Rhino Day echoes the heartbeat of our planet’s biodiversity. It is a day when we come together to declare that extinction is not an option and that the spirit of these magnificent creatures brings us encourages us to position ourselves as guardians of the wonders of nature.” – Yasmina Adams, Facilities Manager
