Sam Altman says he doesn’t think the world ‘needs another copy of Google’ because ‘it’s boring’

“I find it boring. I mean, if the question is can we build a better search engine than Google or whatever, then of course we should go for it, people should use the better product,” said Altman. podcaster Lex Friedman in a interview broadcast Monday. “But I think that would be underestimating what it can be.”

Altman made the remarks while responding to Fridman’s comparisons between OpenAI ChatGPT and the Google search engine.

“What excites me is not that we can create a better copy of Google Search, but that there may be a much better way to help people find, act on, and synthesize information ” Altman continued.

“I don’t think the world needs another copy of Google,” Altman told Fridman.

Representatives for OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside of normal business hours.
