GPUs are computer chips used to power ChatGPT, process graphics, and can accelerate deep learning processes. According to leading chipmaker Nvidia, GPUs have been greeted as the gold of artificial intelligence because they are crucial for the development of generative AI. Last year, Altman predicted that the brutal crisis caused by chip shortage would ease in 2024 as more and more players permeate the market, it said the Financial Times.

The OpenAI CEO also expressed the need for greater infrastructure to support AI advancements.

He said in a Message this week: “We believe the world needs more AI infrastructure (fabulous capacity, energy, data centers, etc.) than people are currently considering building. Building AI infrastructure at scale and a resilient supply chain is crucial for economic competitiveness. . openai will try to help you!” OpenAI created more than 2 billion dollars revenue last year, the FT reported on Friday, also citing anonymous sources. The company was only founded in 2015 and the result would put it alongside Google and Meta in an elite club of Silicon Valley startups to post $1 billion in annual revenue in their first decade. OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider, made outside of normal business hours.
