South Africa rejects US lawmakers’ proposal to review relations

South Africa has rejected a request from US lawmakers to pass legislation calling for a review of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Two members of Congress introduced a bipartisan bill in the House of Representatives on February 6, criticizing a series of foreign policy positions taken by South Africa – including its case before the United Nations International Court of Justice charging Genocide Israel. The proposed bill adds to criticism leveled last year by US lawmakers over South Africa’s refusal to support the West’s position on Russia’s war with Ukraine and its deepening relations with the BRICS economic bloc.
