Stellantis to invest $160 million in automobile factory in South Africa

Stellantis SA will invest 3 billion rand ($160 million) to develop a new vehicle manufacturing plant in South Africa with the Industrial Development Corp. of the country and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Competition.

The owner of brands including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler and Jeep first signed a memorandum of understanding with the South African government in March. The project was finalized on Wednesday during a meeting attended by the director of operations of Stellantis Middle East and Africa. Samir CherfanMinister of Trade and Industry Ebrahim Patel and IDC officials, the Commerce Department said in a statement.
