From the sun to rare minerals and a young population, Africa has the raw materials needed to make the green transition. Now it needs funding.
Take power. Exceptionally strong sun and vast expanses of desert make Africa the region with the highest long-term solar production potential, according to calculations by the World Bank. The snow cheaper to build and operating new large-scale wind and solar farms in many parts of the world rather than continuing to operate coal or gas-fired power plants. With more than half of the population of sub-Saharan Africa living without electricity, the development of solar energy should be a no-brainer.
