I was invited to stay at White Lion Lodge in the Sanbona Wildlife Reserve in the Little Karoo, where we joined my mother, we spent a wonderful weekend immersed in the surrounding nature, soaking up the warm hospitality and discovering the region and the people who have made it their mission to preserve this particularity. part of our world.
It was really good to be back in the bush – it’s been a few years for me – especially in a place where the big sky and the full moon meet on layers of hills, and where spring sees pockets of light wildflowers color the Karoo Landscape and Renosterveld. A scattering of springbok, a large herd of eland, a Cape Mountain zebra and a relaxed elephant to observe roaming free in between. Best of all, no planes are involved, just a 3-hour scenic meander along the N1 and R62 towards Montagu before veering into the wilderness that is the remarkable Karoo.
