Earlier today I posted about an acquisition spree hitting creator economy startups. Some of these deals eliminate investors or yield very little cash. For example, when Patreon bought Moment Earlier this month, the live streaming events startup was short of funds. The deal won’t bring much to Moment’s investors, according to a person with direct knowledge of the deal. Moment had raised more than $12 million from Pioneering companies and others.
Not all sales are this desperate. Take the wave of acquisitions of influencer marketing companies, companies that focus on connecting creators and advertisers for sponsorship deals. These tend to be profitable and bootstrapped. At least 15 of these companies have been acquired so far this year, according to The Information. Creator Economy Databasewhich represents a significant portion of the 35 sales made or pending from creator-related businesses in total.
