The body of award-winning South African Afro-pop singer Bulelwa Mkutukana, better known as Zahara, is currently being held at a local funeral home in Tsakani.
Zahara died on Monday after being hospitalized at Netcare Olivedale Hospital in Randburg, apparently for liver complications.
His body was embalmed at the mortuary in preparation for transport to his hometown in the Eastern Cape.
The embalming process, which preserves the body by preventing decay, takes a few weeks and essentially involves replacing bodily fluids with a formaldehyde solution.
Zahara’s body will leave the funeral home Saturday morning. His body will be transported to his home in Roodepoort, then to OR Tambo International Airport to return to his hometown.
