During a close confrontation this Wednesday at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké, Nigeria won against South Africa, thus reaching the final of the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations. The Super Eagles return to the final stage of the tournament for the first time since their coronation in 2013.

A balanced first half was followed by William Troost-Ekong of Nigeria opening the scoring in the 67th minute from the penalty spot. Tensions were high when South Africa equalized thanks to a Teboho Mokoena penalty in the 85th minute, setting the stage for a fierce fight.

Despite a second goal denied to Nigeria and an expulsion from the South African side in overtime, the match ended in a draw. The decision was finally decided on penalties, an event which once again favored the Nigerians (4-2), confirming them as finalists of the competition.
